I wished that was how it worked. Oh, how I wished that was how it worked.
Unfortunately the truth is not that many of the elite LDS kids sign with BYU. Far too many of them go elsewhere without so much as a sideways glance at BYU. We usually have to content ourselves with the good not great ones.
Now with Football independence, and an incredible ESPN/BYU-TV media package, maybe things will change. Playing the likes of Gonzaga and St. Mary's twice a year certainly won't hurt.
And let's face it, the WCC has some of the best campus locations in the entire country. Spokane not so much, but the rest are to die for. Be honest now, which would you rather visit in the dead middle of winter -- Lawrence, KS, or Malibu, CA? Couple that with some of the best skiing in the world right outside our back-doorstep, and we might get a few more of those top LDS recruits at least giving us some serious consideration.
