Let's recap: The mysterious Society of Jesus builds an enormous baroque basilica on top of a cemetery maintained by the equally mysterious Masonic order. The church is full of ancient symbols and signs not unlike those found in the great European churches. Someone has a hazy memory of a mysterious body or likeness in a side altar of the church that now may have inexplicably vanished. Recent excavation unearths Masonic burial sites and, who knows, perhaps signs and relics of ancient Masonic rituals. Who knows of or has ever seen the mysterious catacombs that may be under the church and provide access to the burial sites. A poster points to a possible connection to ancient Tong wars and their heretofore unnoticed potential connection to Catholicism and Masonic beliefs. The dots are connected by amateur sleuths on an obscure and seemingly innocuous message board that purports to be about basketball but periodically has posts by seemingly deranged persons talking about various conspiracies.
Sounds to me like the makings of the next great Dan Brown novel.
