I don't know QD but Quentin Dailey is deceased and that note of sarcasm in your post is undignified.
Some of us know of the efforts of various University representatives in trying to make amends and to persuade Bill Russell to come back to the school. Some of us know of the efforts of his teammates in trying to accomplish the same task. Some people independently have also extended the olive branch. They all have been rebuffed.
It is sad. I am not sure that there is a resolution. I am not sure that anyone is capable of overcoming the obvious hurt that Mr. Russell still has. I am not sure that things will change before his demise.
I debated whether to sign the petition. I agree with honoring Mr. Russell but I am NOT a fan of statues. I think of statues and saints. The statues of great men that are in Washington, DC did not impress me.
I am optimistic that the greater success of our current teams under Rex will garner the attention of Mr. Russell. He may decide to come home to a school that would welcome him with open arms. Can you imagine how thrilled the players would be if Bill Russell were to walk into WMG? Can you imagine how awesome it would be for someone to spot him and to watch as waves of people rose to their feet clapping their hands in recognition of his accomplishments as a student/athlete and as a professional athlete? Can you imagine the emotions that would erupt? It would a moment to remember.
Jay, you are zealous. Try to contact him. Try to contact his teammates. You might just be the one to persuade Mr. Russell that USF wants to honor him and that this is the concensus of the alumni. Put as much effort into a personal connection as you do into posting on this board and you just might be the one to succeed. Good luck!
Also, for the person who mentioned the team years. Bill Russell and company won the '55 and '56 Championships. In '57, USF without Bill and KC was a Final Four team.
