You have a point with the timeline, but USD is going to have to be proactive. With this hanging over their head, they will not be able to sign anyone with any talent till it is resolved.
Grier might have to take the fall for this.
If you were a high school player with any other D1 offer, why would you go to USD till this is resolved? A bad team to start off with, with possible sanctions coming, and a head coach that is, honestly, a long shot to still be there in four years (he would have been gone anyways with another bad season).
With a new head coach, a recruit might at least assume he will be with that same coach through his time at San Diego.
