First of all the article is aimed at geographically close schools. Spokane isn't geographically close to anything.
Second, remember VCU was 4th in their conference having 6 conference losses and Butler had 5 conference losses in the Horizon... so it's not like these schools are so much better than their conference foes that they need a new conference.
And third, GU is very happy with the way the WCC has improved over the last decade. This year the conference had 5 teams with 20+ wins. And 5 teams make post season tournaments. 62% of the conference played in the post season tournaments. Now, add BYU. Why would GU be upset?
