FYL, Thanks for this frank post. I agree about the feel of Homecoming although I'm not sure about playing games on the soccer field. I think the problem is more invasive. MBB seems like an afterthought for many Hilltoppers, at least when I'm on campus prior to MBB games. A couple of weeks ago, I was flying out of SFO and met a USF coed flying home for Summer. I asked her if she ever went to MBB games, and she responded no. Since she was foreign, I mentioned some of our new recruits, and she said that she'd try to catch some games next year. My point is I think Rex and the development he's demonstrated will eventually change the somber mood on the Hilltop. I think it will even change the mix of incoming students. But I think this vision will need leadership in addition to Rex's in order to be realized. I'm hoping. GO DONS!!! P.S. It wouldn't hurt some of the other sports to put on short games or demos during Homecoming. For that matter, some of the ac. depts. could do the same. Go up to UC Davis for Picnic Day if you want to catch a REAL Homecoming that's a lot of fun. The Hilltop might have its own style (Minus the cow with a hole in its stomach. Actually, it's a huge hit for kids to stick their arm in it!) Just liven the afternoon and evening up. Huddling in an office sipping wine with the same old farts doesn't make a Homecoming. Go around to different schools and check things out. Or just ask some of us who've gone to different events.
