As we know, a common thread of this board over the past few years has been the concern that as a university, we have a functionally incompetent athletic department. With much detriment to the alumni community, this has taken a toll on the school, primarily through the material decrease in donations, which many have pegged to a change in departmental leadership.
Well, we now have much larger problems.
In the Alameda Newspaper Group publications today, 6/3/2009, a table was published listing the six year graduation rates for entering freshmen in Bay Area Schools.
USF is at 65%. This is across the board, and reflects ALL freshmen admits to the school, and is not limited to only athletic admits.
DOES ANYBODY SEE A PROBLEM HERE!!!!!!!!!
What we have become, is not just a University with a problem in the Athletic Department, but a school that as much as we may want to admit it, is not getting the job done.
Any ideas? Is admissions letting people in that are in no way qualified for a four year university, or is it that the faculty and support staff aren't getting the job done?
Scary in either case. Put another way, if USF was applying for a drivers license and came up with a 65% on the test, well, you get the idea.
Just for reference:
Stanford 95% UC Berkeley 88% Santa Clara 84%
As a poet once said, "Time to wake up and smell the coffee". If, as alumni, we don't do something soon, we have to ask, what will USF be in five years.
Sorry to go off topic of athletics, but I suspect many people on this board care about the reputation of USF, and face it, this is a call for change from the top down.
