Abeille, Get Harry Edwards on PBS on the web. Prof. Edwards talks about compression - how the pressure affects today's athletes in so many ways. Harry says he was an outstanding or recognized football line backer and bb player during college. He says now-a-days there are some incidents of grammar school and frequently prep stars being identified as top ranked certain future stars, which can consequently limit their potential growth as an athlete, student, and more importantly as a human being. We see this all the time with youths being pushed or pulled into the professional ranks before they have sufficient maturation.
What's really sad is how many universities comply with the corporate and financial pressure that compound this compression of not only the collegiate athletes but athletic programs as well. I wish the NCAA directors would listen to Edwards' ideas on this program, and make more meaningful changes, especially when the eyes of the nation aren't focusing on them.
