I hope that Jordan does NOT consider GU. The fact that they would even mention Phil's vocabulary and make a comment about wondering whether he inherited his father's penchant for that language is prejudiced.
I never heard Phil's vocabulary but others did and I understand their issues over that. Phil was always courteous and kind to me. His wife was lovely and their children were adorable.
I will always be grateful to Phil for that NCAA appearance and for what he accomplished with our teams. He also brought a group of young men from Ventura who were fine young men. I will never forget running into Hakeem Ward when he was finishing up his credits. I had an extra plate of cookies which I offered to him. He thanked me and then he asked if he could hug my mom who was sitting in the wheelchair. They both beamed.
I spoke to Darryl Tucker at the Father Hub Flynn Dinner. He explained that he was grateful to Phil for being so tough. He said it prepared him for what he has faced in Europe. He stated that those coaches are truly TOUGH.
It would be an honor to have Jordan as part of our USF team. I can still remember him dribbling the ball far better than most at his young age. I am sure that the desire to win is embedded in Jordan's genes. I am sure that Jordan will make the right decision for himself and his family.
Good luck to Jordan. Thanks, Phil, for all that you did.
