My lovely wife (USF Nursing alum, mind you) and I made the 6 block walk up today, here is my review:
WMG: Looks great. new upper level seats (behind basket) look fantastic. New baskets are great, and new trim around upper level glass barrier is very sleek.
Dior: Monster. Looks like he has improved his ball-handling. His 3 ball and post moves were superb. We already know this.
Perris: WOW! Best new player on this team. So nice to see a competent post player in the green and gold. Wider body than I expected. This guy is a freshman, and he will start this season.
Kwame: Looked really good. Kwame of last year but better. Talent for driving the ball, and good sense of the floor.
Bryant: Showed leadership abilty, and is a serviceable PG. Glad he's on the team, and may have flashes of superior play.
O'Conner: Quick, Quick, Quick. Very good handle; you can tell he has played against high-level competition. I hope he is OK..silly foul by Smith, but I do appreciate the passionate play.
Williams: Solid outside shooter. Good handle too. Looks comfortable out there; like DC you can tell he has played against high-level competition. He and O'Conner could easily develop into the best backcourt in the WCC.
Angelo: Very solid role player. Every winning team needs a guy like this.
Diarra: Not as polished as I hoped, but a big improvement over Taylor/Morgan. Should get minutes behind Perris, and I could see him really improving as he adjusts to D1 play. Decent dribble for his size, and a great C/PF body.
Bruha: Needs work. I don't think he is a total stiff, but there is going to be a learning curve. OK for a legit 7 footer, the potential is there. Despite what Rex says, he's a project.
Green: Expected more on the offensive end; his shot was off. However, his head was in the game, and he showed good defense. He is a guy that will fill in gaps, and I suspect that his offensive game is better than what I saw today.
Nikola: Potential through the roof. Great stroke, great height, and good sense of the game. He still has some adjusting to do, but he could be an all WCC type in a couple years.
Smith: I like his hustle, and he looks like he's bulked up a little (I saw him at Papalote on Fulton not long ago, perhaps this is related). I love the hard work and the tradition.
Blake: I predict he will coach D1 BBall one day.
REX: All business. Love it.
DGM: Virtually no applause when she was introduced. I almost felt bad for her...almost.
I will be joining the 6th Man Club this year for the first time. Very excited about the direction of this program.
