San Diego’s Rob Jones is transferring to Saint Mary’s to be closer to home.
The 6-foot-6, 230-pound forward, who will have two years remaining with Randy Bennett and the Gaels, averaged 9.5 points and 5.5 rebounds this past season with the Toreros.
``I really wanted to be closer to home and to my family,” Jones said. ``San Diego was 400-plus miles away and now I’m a half-hour away.”
Jones said he chose San Diego over Saint Mary’s coming out of Archbishop Riordan High in San Francisco.
``I thought I wanted to get away at the time,” he said. ``But looking at it now, I want to be closer to home.”
Jones, who started 28 games last season, won’t be eligible to play until the 2010-11 campaign.
