Anyway, I've got to agree with LL on this one - most of the student government people at UP don't care so much about athletics, mainly because they don't control the budget and don't really get to make any decisions. The most ASUP ever did (by the way, how classic is it that it's ASSMC) was spend a bunch of $$$ to buy soccer playoff tickets for students, since the NCAA doesn't give playoff tickets away for free. I'm hoping that will start to change as Purple Pride becomes "legitimate", but we'll see... I'm guessing no, unfortunately. I feel for all the LL people... this is SOOOO reminiscent of problems I had.
1,200 does seem like a bit of a stretch... though the "new" Purple Pride group (now sponsored through the athletic department instead of simply student-run and organized) has signed up about 700-800 kids since the beginning of the year... not too bad for the small student body (though I guess SMC's undergrad population is close to UP's). 90
