Basically what happened is this...ASUSF Superfund which is the committee who has given a generous amount of funding to Los Locos to plan, and run the event decided to essentially cut all of our funding this year. There was absolutely NO good reason for doing this, the same protocol was follow this year as in previous years, the new student leaders are more than capable and had my advising to make it happen, and were very prepared. The laundry list of cop out excuses was throw at the new LL leadership and it all stunk of bull. The real reason? IMO is that ASUSF is run by a select group of students who are involved in numerous organizations. Some in particular are involved with the group CAB which organizes (poorly at that) the Homecoming event. They have been extremely bitter for the past 2 years as Los Locos was able to put on 2 solid MM events that blew their joke Homecoming shows out of the water, with less than HALF the budget. These students misused the trust ASUSF put in them, and have ultimately attempted to kill Midnight Madness. Midnight Madness will include a free BBQ outside of WMG put on by Los Locos and the USF athletic department. Following this all fans will move into War Memorial where the players will be introduced, Coach Evans will discuss the upcoming season, etc. Then the players will scrimmage for about 30 minutes, then Coach will run them through a practice. I wish there was more we could do at this point, however we were blind sided VERY late in the game, and had to scramble. I really wish this wasn't the case as Los Locos is doing some VERY big things for this upcoming season. Once the details are 100% finalized I will make sure the new Presidents share them with you. They are a HUGE step for our organization and should be pretty exciting for everyone to hear. We thank everyone on this site for supporting Los Locos, we can only hope that those on campus will come to see this group, events such as MM, and overall school spirt's importance! GO DONS!
I was hoping this would get brought up by someone...here is what I can tell you about MM as of now.
Unfortunately for us, the athletic department apparently does not have the funds to cover this loss in our budget and allow us to bring in an exciting artist and provide a very nice production set up for the basketball teams show. By the time we found out that our budget had been taken down to virtually nothing, it was really too late to plan much else. This has been extremely disappointing for me to see, and it horrible that LL cannot get further support to make this event happen the way it has in the past.
HOWEVER, we will not let the start of the season go by with nothing going on. I know the current LL leadership is planning a get together event on the night of the 12th. It will be a Midnight Madness still, yet different.211
