Posted by DOH_DarkShaman Now for new members. DOH in XvT was invitation only, which means that we didn't want just anyone, we wanted only the best. We were using Roger Wilco, something that other squadrons didn't have a clue about at the time. We would find folks who were decent pilots, invite them to join the channel and figure out if we could get along with them. The first folks we hooked up with on RW were Jim_Rupersburg (sp), OBM_Mom, Death From Above and a guy who ended up being DOH_ColdSteel (who was a doctor in the Navy). Jim became BlackCloud, OBM became Angler, Death became DOH_Death and ColdSteel, well you get the picture. Some of the other pilots who came along were Banshee and his son, Stick (who I never figured out what happened to), Jane DOH our first female pilot (and she would put bullets in your ass with the best of them). The point I'm trying to make is, DOH has a rich history. We've always been the best. I remember when the Zone had events and Commanders were named, I'd get emails from both commanders begging me to join their side. I guess they knew DOH could make the difference. Which brings up another story. Bored yet? I remember I was a leader in an event. The orders were too complicated for normal folks to follow but I had a squadron of 5, I lost three of them due to bad planning. There was one guy who stayed on my butt all the time. I made a move, he mirrored me perfectly. I was impressed. I invited him to join RW to find out what kind of fellow he was and he had lots of heart and was a great pilot. He became DOH_Witham. I remember, before he was DOH, he sent me a private message and said, I saw a DOH in the beginner's room (that was forbidden at that time), he also said, he didn't fly like DOH because I shot him down lots! Wit didn't realize how good he was at that time. Hell, I figured that if anyone could stay on my butt and stay alive through the hell that I went through in that event, must be DOH. =) I must acknowlege a few other pilots. DOH_Troll, great pilot, good guy. Carver, OMG, he is awesome. Impaler, don't get in front of him, he will, well, impale you! Black Adder, he is old school and is one of the orginal DOHboyz in FA and will hurt you. There are so many others who deserve mentioning. 2BeeredUp, a Marine DI, who used to get on RW and scream BEERED UP HERE! MtnLion, great pilot. Stang, it took some talking but he put the DOH tag on. All this is to tell you. You have a proud heritage, revel in it. Be proud of it. Lots of GREAT pilots wore your tag. I'm sure that everyone who wears the DOH tag is a target. You have all of us to thank for that and if not us, then Angler and Riddler. Let me state the obvious, Angler and Riddler are awesome, both as pilots and leaders. I couldn't have wished that the squadron would have been left in more capable hands. When I was CO, I was always flattered that the best pilots in the game wanted to fly with me. I can tell you that those two feel the same way. Nevermind the fact that they are both deadly, that's secondary to having folks who are just as deadly, and can clear your six and do a barrel roll afterwards! DOH LIVES! I salute you all! I felt that I should write this so all the new DOHboyz could read it. Perhaps there are few folks who are old timers now who really don't know the history of DOH. Destroyers of Hope was started by Crzy_Man_Al. He lives in Waco, Texas. He chose DOH_Kestril to help him start it. Kestril lives in Alabama. Originally, DOH was an Xwing v Tie Fighter squadron, hence the name. We were Imperials, the first Star Wars movie (known as Episode IV (A New Hope)) was the basis for the name. Al chose the name and I think for a youngster, at that time, he was way beyond his years. Yes, Al was young but he didn't act like it. He built a squadron of folks from the ground up who ruled the Zone's XvT rooms. One of our pilots, DOH_VIPER, was at the top of the IGN ladder for longer than anyone wants to remember. If you aren't familiar with the ladder, it is open to anyone, and you compete one on one against each other for two rounds. You host one and you are the guest of one. Now if you haven't done this type thing, hosting puts you at a disadvantage because the load is on your computer. VIPER was the master of Euro lag. Euro lag? Let's put it this way, I have been behind someone, shooting them and have them kill me because my computer hadn't caught up with their position because they were in Europe. Now you might say, why Viper wasn't that good. Well I can tell you that I have faced him and flown with him on Cable connections (which are run-of-the-mill today but back then, they were rare and everyone enjoyed the melee). In other words, yes, he was that good. Okay, so you say, it started as a Star Wars squadron. Kestril and I were great friends, we used to pound folks who dared to face us in team matches. Kes wasn't fond of the ladder, I reached number 3 on it before I stopped doing it. With no one to fight, I tried FA. I loved it. I flew solo for so long in FA, DOH_DarkShaman against the world, so to speak. Finally, I talked Kestril's wife into letting him get a sub to the game. I used a little kid attitude (no one wants to fly with me and Randy (his real name) would help me and everyone shoots me because I kill them, you get my drift! LOL A few XvT DOHboyz filtered over after Kes did, namely DOH_Mach1 and DOH_DaveBC. Dave could only fly when his wife wasn't home because she hated internet games. The three of us decided to move DOH to FA. We drew straws and I lost, so I became the CO and I twisted Kes's arm and made him become my XO. We became a real FA squadron.
