Patella luxation is graded 1 to 4. 1 being the least problem and 4 the worst. Your vet can examine your dog just by feeling (palpating) the knee joint. It does NOT take an x-ray. Your veterinarian will then grade your dog's knee. If your dog's knee is a 1 to 2 it can be controlled with medication. If your dog is a 3 to 4 that usually requires surgery. Hi Simon, yes, small dogs have patella (knee) problems. It is called patella luxation, and it has to do with the knee cap.
