
Posted by Greg(PEI) on November 24, 2006, 4:55 pm, in reply to "Re: support your local parks" Interestingly enough, I watched second reading of the "Archaeology Act" at the Legislature this morning.Although this new act will replace several old laws and introduce several new initiatives to protect our Native ,Acadian, early UK etc sites. Laws surrounding metal detecting are still going to be the same I hope, there is a limit of 150 years to buffer the space of time that is not considered significant in an archeological or paleontological way. And to cap it all off, metal detectorists aren't considered archeologists, so the new act won't keep me up at night, so the best thing to do is to get a good night's sleep before hitting the fields. last I heard metal detecting is still ok to do but no doubt there will further developments

PS don't forget now, if you discover something older than 150 years old and it's an artifact, get your check book out for government so you can pay for that little piece history...really
