Hi Jack:
We just came across the information you provided on the Vagabond 47'. We have recently purchased the same boat we are now in the process of a major restoration project. We will be replacing the bowsprit and constructing a new one ourselves. We have not been very successful on obtaining any information on the construction of this boat. We were wondering what type of wood should be used for the bowsprit. The wood on the existing sprit is so rotted we can not tell what was used orginally.

: Dennis,
: I recently purchased a 1985 47'Vagabond.
: They're a very sturdy, seaworthy boat at
: it's best in winds over 20 knots.
: Beautiful under sail and lot's of comfort
: for a live aboard. No speed deamon but it
: will take you anywhere. Be sure to check
: the decks and prisms for leaks. The
: bowsprit can also have rot. Check all the
: chain plate bolts on the outer hull for
: rust. The chain plates themselves are
: glassed in on the inside and covered with
: woodwork, so if you have to change them
: it's a messy job. Good luck, Jack
