I am considering buying a yacht (say around 68 foot) to charter. Any ideas on the useful life for business purposes of a fibreglass model would be much appreciated before I make the commitment!
: Chris: As with all things, Boats do have a
: lifespan.
: A very well maintained boat (fibreglass or
: otherwise) can remain serviceable for a
: very long time (at least 50 years -
: perhaps much more). However, it might cost
: as much as 5 - 10% per year of the boat's
: original cost to professionally maintain a
: boat in that condition.
: Skilled Do-it-yourselfers could save much of
: this(labour) cost, at the expense of much
: personal time invested.
: Boats depreciate similarily to motor cars,
: and you should never expect to recoup the
: purchasing cost, under normal
: circumstances.
: Boats and boating are the major joy in (my)
: life; but they are a terrible investment.
: Do it anyway - it will repay you in so many
: ways other than financial!
: Regards,
: Gord

: Do boats have a lifespan, how old can
: fibreglass boats become and still be ok,
: assuming they are well maintained?
: What happens to prices of boats as they get
: older?
: Do they depreciate similar to motor cars?
: Would one be able to recoup the purchasing
: cost of a boat after a period of time?
: Do cats have different lifespans to monos?
