Posted by JeanneP I don't recall any foul weather gear being sold, but would assume that if there were any, it would be frightfully expensive. There are chandleries in Papeete, though, so if you really need, you could check there.

so finding cheap provisions is tough. Boxed frozen chicken from the U.S. is the biggest bargain, in my memory. Used books are generally in French. Most Americans who arrive there will have a reasonable supply of books to trade (and you will find this as you progress through the S. Pacific). The Club Bali Hai resort on Moorea (in Cook Bay) had lots of paperback books in English for trade (left behind from its US guests).
