I believe Clint Waterhouse won his index.
RIP John Gates
This is from the Barona management & staff.
OUR HEARTFELT CONDOLENCES, THOUGHTS & PRAYERS go to the Gates Family of San Diego.
A word from Jay....John Gates and Eric Gates have been drag racing buddies of mine for many years. John and Eric over the years have never refused to help anyone in need (unless they needed a win light from them) I can tell you of many stories where they have come to my rescue. Others have shared the same kind of stories.
John had what ended up being a fatal medical problem while crewing their Funny Car on the start line at Barona during ARMDROP LIVE Friday night. John had most of his family and grandchildren there with him. Seconds before he was taken from us, as Eric started the burn-out in their Pontiac Funny Car, his last words to our starter were "Howdy neighbor!" .
When I think of my own mortality I can only say, I would rather pass away on the start line of a drag race doing what I love, helping the people I love, rather than in a nursing home trying to remember the names and faces of the people I once loved.
Rest in peace John Gates.
Jay and the Barona Staff
The race fans that were there feel much the same way.
