My Dad, PFC Loyd Calvin Tow ( as in cow) was in Company F, 324 Infantry Battalion with the 44th. Though short and no where near to sweet, his served as a replacement in Worms and Landex Germany. May 45-late Jul 45 He received the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Award, the American Theater Service Medal,Victory Medal(I believe these three were given to the whole Battalion) and Good Conduct Medal.
He did not like talking about the "things I saw over there" much but he did mention having his best buddy snipered beside him in the same fox hole. He also mentioned helping at a concentration camp. These things subsequently caused him to have a severe drinking problem until I was 16. One of his only laughs was of trading cigarettes for beers with the locals.
I am searching for all the info I can. If perhaps you find something, I would certainly appreciate it. Hope what little info I have helps you in your search.
Sincerely Janet Tow Webb
