Posted by Melissa He was wounded in battle when his gun exploded in his hands. I have always known my grandfater with only 2 fingers on his right hand but a man that could do more than any human could with that hand. I guess I am looking to see if anyone recognizes my Pap Pap's name. I have looked at the pictures on this site but none were of my grandfater. Could his discharge papers be wrong? If anyone could give me more information on my Grandfather or even just the 44th please email me at either

I am a teacher in a public School District. Our school is doing a large display for Veterans Day. This has prompted me to learn more about my grandfather's time in the military. His name is Loring Edward Kendrick. His honorable Discharge papers say this:
PFC 71st Infantry, 44th Division
Ammunition Handler 504... Sharpshooter with M-1
He participated in the Rhineland Campaigns
He was inducted June 1st in 1944 at Fort George G. Meade
