John, I hope I can help you. Was member of Charley Comany of 114th Inf Regt; sister regiment to the 71st. Have had an ongoing search mission for men of the 44th since 1987. Your father was in E Co of the 71st. Being a Technical Sergeant he must have been a platoon sergeant so should be well remembered even after all these years.
