I am interested in finding more information about the World War II service of my father, Technical Sgt. Charles R. Gastineau of Judson, Indiana. His discharge records show that he was a member of the 71st Infantry, 44th Division. Some handwritten notes made by mother suggest he may have been a member of Company E in 1943. He left the United States for service in Europe on September 5, 1944 and was discharged on December 16, 1945. The only time he talked at any length about his service he spoke of being in the Battle of the Bulge. He received a number of medals, including a Purple Heart, but the records associated with the medals apparently were destroyed in a fire in 1973. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who knew Dad or has information about his service.
