My Father joined the NG in Newburgh, NY during 1939. Later when his unit was federalized he became a member of the 44th Division, I know that he was on the Carolina Manuvers, Arkansas, Louisiana, and eventually Fort Lewis. His Line Crew was sent to Copalis Beach, Washington and they installed all the poles and Lines from Pacific Beach Naval Station to Brown's Point in Grays Harbor. I also know that he stayed with the 44th Div. all the way to Austria, and arrived back in the States on the Queen Elizabeth. I have one citation for the Bronze Star, and Purple Heart with clusters. His was in Communications, and was a Line Chief when he received them. It said HQ. & HQ. 44th Division Artillery. Maybe the 156th, or 157th FA. However I can't find any information on these units. I was just wondering if anyone would have a site, or info on these units. I also have a Hankerchief with a lot of signatures of men that were apparently on the ship with him.
