In my research I have found that my father went to basic at Camp Croft in South Carolina after being inducted June 16, 1941 at Camp Upton. After basic, I think he must have gone to Fort Dix but I am unsure. He appears to have been with Company I, 113th Infantry, 44th division by September 24, 1941 but I do not know where they were located at that point. I believe he went to Carolina Manuevers with that unit. Maybe they were at Fort Bragg?? Pearl Harbor occured on their way back. Then Company I was sent to Eatontown, NJ and I now think daddy and his buddies guarded the beaches from there that winter. Daddy left the unit to go to OCS at Benning.
