Thanks for your response. I'll bet they did know one another. John passed in 2002 and John Jr and I kick ourselves for not asking more questions about where he served. We know that he crossed the Rhine and into Imst, Austria. As a matter of fact in the history of the 44th which I purchased via info from this site, I found a picture of my husband in same - when they were on their way to Imst (I hope I'm spelling that right). He did miss the Battle of the Bulge, but joined the group shortly thereafter - at least I believe he missed the Bulge. Why do we wait so long to delve into history of our loved ones???
