Dear Mr Lammers. I too would appreciate getting a copy of the logs you have for 324 CO F. My Father-in-law Howard (Bob) Hartman, Who just passed away was Dec 14th 2008 (Brick Town NJ) , was there in CO F.
Over the years that I knew him, I occasionally got him to talk about his time there, but not until after his death did I see his ribbons. My god, the presidential unit citation! I don’t think he even understood why he got it. I think Nordwinds, he talked about getting off the front for a break, getting on a truck, falling asleep and then waking up in the middle of a battle which he recalled it to be a bulge. That’s all I have to guess that is was Nordwind and he, from the 324 CO f, found himself with the 71th at that moment -(I Guess).
I don't think he knew where exactly he was when he was there, so i could never get context of his stories - nor did I know just how much the 324th endured. He talked to me about things like it was nothing special, nor did he do anything special-he was just other 17 year old guy over there.
I very much regret not going on the web earlier, so i could delve deeper into his stories, and give him context to what he actually did there. Now I owe it to him and his memory to try to recall his stories and write them down, and perhaps with the logs, maybe some context will unfold. I hard to believe he's just gone, I wish I would have done this earlier. If you could, I would very much appreciate the logs you have to help me.
Advice for others - Don't wait till tomorrow - tomorrow could be too late -
