Dear Stan,
Thank you for the kind words. I know our fathers served with honor and distinction to provide us a better life. I will get the book The Other Battle of The Bulge –Operation Northwind and read it. I know that the unit was involved in some vicious battles and my father suffered shrapnel wound from a mortar attack in December of 1944.
Great Lakes Naval Training Center is located north of Chicago Illinois. Chicago is a beautiful city but it is cold during the winter. I left the Chicago area many years ago for a warmer climate in Texas.
