Posted by mark lammers on 6/12/2007, 10:08 pm As far as his wounding, he was again on a scout mission, and was first hit by rifle fire in his torso from right to left. He managed to get up and move to a crater, where he was later hit by MG fire from a tank, seconds later by the shrapnel from the main round. He was found two days later I think, barely alive, transported to field hospital in a barn and then to evac hospital. Further amputation of his arm took place in the field hospital. If anyone needs the combat logs let me know. I can see about getting them copied and sent out. I also do restoration work on WWII firearms, so if anyone needs that done as a gift to your vet let me know, it would be an honor to do it for you.

Its been some time since I was on the site, but that will be changing. I have all the daily logs from the time the 324 CO F was in theater. They saw some hard combat that is sure. I still can not find the details of the incident when my grandfather saved his CO. He did talk of it with my grandmother and so have I. What I can glean is that he was on a scout mission when he came back he intercepted a german patrol after they had captured his LT. When they went into foxhole or crater and roughed the LT up he knew who the prisoner was. He then entered the foxhole and after some shooting,bayonet/hth, he and the LT he and the Lt won the fight(my grandmother said they killed entire patrol) and returned to our lines.
