The 44th came back by ship in July,1945. I wrote July, 1944, a nonsensical typo. Sorry. I could add here that the men were given a 30-day leave, with expectations to be shipped off to invade Japan. Martin, I presume, would have gone. A lot of what I have written in these two postings was learned by attending 44th annual reunions (three so far).
