Amber; My uncle was in the same unit as your grandfather. Over the past several years I've decided to track his military years from Iowa, through Ft.Lewis,Wa. and to Europe with the 44th ID. He was killed in Jan. 1945 in France near the German border in the Nordwind Offensive of the Germans corresponding with the Battle of the Bulge. I found there to be not much info on the 44th, and have read as much as I could find-buying out of print books online,etc. and at times take a break from researching in the hopes of getting some new info from new writings. Don't know that I can help you much, but would if possible. Your post was the first I've seen that represented a soldier in the same Division,Regiment,Company and Battalion as my uncles so I had to drop you a note. Good Luck
