This may sound a little strange:
My sister an I are looking for our grandfather. He was stationed in Mittenwald/Germany until 1945. My father was born in March 1946 and never got to meet his father. Unfortunately this part of bavaria is still very catholic-conservative and certain things are simply not talked about. And since we don't even have a name, don't exactly know which units where stationed there it's very frustrating. And we are so clueless.
If anybody has any info on the units that where stationed there from about 1944-46, your help will be greatly appreciated. This is what we are trying to find out:
> which units where stationed in Mittenwald (or maybe Garmisch) at that time
> is there a list of soldiers that got send back in '45 (probably towards the end) - we heard that rumor that he got send back before the rest of his unit?!
> does anybody have any memories and is willing to share them?
> I cannot list a pic of my grandmother or even her name, without her consent, which makes it even harder.
We are fully aware of the fact, that even if we would find our grandfather, he has a complete family of his own and please know, that we do not want to disturb that. We are simply trying to fill a hole in our heritage. Especially for our father who is battling with cancer right now.
