For group speech (although this could work for indiv. sessions as well)in our urban area, I once had the students assemble a teen community guide. This provided about 6 weeks of sessions in a structured unit aimed toward improving written language, pragmatics (including calling various facilities), and organization. Other units have included making a cookbook and a calendar featuring their writing and pictures, with the help of a digital camera or scanner...
