You are so right about that book! I have done exactly the activities you have. For some of my really low kids, we guess the sound, play a game where they have to listen to the sound and choose a picture of which animal they think it will be, lots of imitation of sounds, yes/no activity with, "Does the duck say---" etc. This really lends itself well to PECS activities at the "I see/hear" level. There is also a book about transportation sounds that I am planning to buy.
