I like to kick off the school year with a unit on our "Speech Helpers." Super Duper actually has a book of the same title, but you don't need to book to do the project. Basically, you go over which are the parts of the body we use to communicate (eyes, ears, nose, mouth, larynx, etc) and how these parts help us to speak or communicate. Then I have the kids make their own "speech selves" by drawing and coloring a picture of themselves with all their speech helpers. On the bottom of the page, I write their names like this: "Speech John" and "Speech Mary." They look great, and they're fabulous to hang on your wall for back to school night.
