Posted by alice 6 different containers (Such as a box, a bucket, a cup, a teapot, a small barn, a tackle box) A set of four paper "dice" with each side of each die having something different written on it. (You can make paper dice by cutting two 3x5 index cards in half lengthwise, lopping off 1/2 inch in length from each strip, then folding each strip into thirds. Then just fit the folded pieces together into a cube shape and secure with tape). One die says "Put ___," with a number between 2 and 8 written on each side. One die has a different name of each of your objects written on each side (bears, stones, paper clips, etc). One die has a directional word or phrase written on each side (under, above, to the left of, in, beside, etc). One die has a different name of each of your containers written on a side. We finished this game by having the students count their objects at the end and making a chart on the board of how many of each object each student had collected. Then we asked/answered questions like, "Who had the most bears?" "Who had the fewest stones?" "Who had more cars, Jack or Justin?"

This is a game that has turned out to be fun even for older kids. I'm not even sure why they like it so much, but they beg to play it. I love dice games because they are so adaptable!
Materials needed:
6 sets of 20 or more small, attractive objects (such as colored stones, plastic bears, bingo chips, micro-machine cars, colored paper clips, jacks). I put these into small plastic boxes and lined them up on the table.
Directions: The students take turns rolling all four dice at once, arranging them and reading them out oud in the correct order. Then they simply follow the directions given by the dice (For example: "Put four cars beside the barn," or "Put five bears under the teapot.") The rest of the students decide whether the student has done it correctly, and if he did, he gets to keep the objects (not permanently...just for the game) at his seat. Play continues around the circle, and gradually the kids accumulate collections of little objects.
