maybe try something like having each child do a "self-portrait" which would essentially include glueing pre-cut pictures of random things, activities, etc onto a large piece of paper, then sharing it with the others. During their show and tell you can observe their language, artic, etc. It helps if you have a portrait as well to model. If time permits you may even bring in magazines and let them cut out pics theirself.
