I have copies of paper (1/3 size of full sheet) that say "This week's speech practice" on them with lines for either me or them to write on. They write anything they had difficulty with during the session to take home and practice (e.g., student had difficulty with the /r/ in "bird" during structured conversation. student writes "bird" on his/her paper). I don't require that they bring it back because I haven't had luck with that either but it gives the motivated kids and/or motivated parents something to work on at home. And it takes me hardly any time to prepare because it is written during that student's turn. i like the "drawing" idea though and may try that though to maybe get kids to bring it back!
