Hi,
I choose a book for my primary groups and another for my intermediate groups. I usually choose a book that goes along with the curriculum in the classrooms or is on our school's Reading Counts List.
Then I take a list of my students' goals and script out activities and homework to go along with the stories. My children love this approach because it makes it fun and engaging for all of them while still addressing their IEP goals.
I have developed units for many books. I choose artic lists, wh ?, sequencing, developing complete sentences, comprehension, etc. I also pull materials from ArticULit, Literature Gems, etc. Also, www.abcteach.com has some book units.
