I like to use the back to school the first week. I work mostly in a preschool setting so this year I bought a Dora backpack for me. I talk about how we had to get ready to go to school and that mom and dad took us shopping to buy back to school items. My backpack if filled one pencil, one pen, one pack of note cards, one folder, one spiral notebook, one stick glue, one regular glue- etc. Some times I throw things that don't belong in a back pack just to throw them off. I have one student close their eyes and reach inside the back pack to pull out one item. They have to use good speech sounds, tell me what it is, we talk about each item, what we use it for, color, shape. I try to increase vocabulary, description etc. The kids really like it. If you have a book to school book in a library somewhere this can be a good way to start the session then end with the activity. I hope this helps. Have a great school year!
