I have a group that I do a weekly class lesson with that sound exactly the same as yours.
I have done idioms and multiple meaning words. One of the idiom activities I did: I allowed the students to choose an idiom. They then illustrated what it sounded like it meant and then what it really meant. I used some examples for the material exchange page on this site. The students really enjoyed this activity. I also did a similar activity with multiple meaning words. They had to illustrate the two meanings for a words and then present it to the class.
I have done a lot of vocabulary/describing activities and inferening activities too.
