I've been playing a game all week that the students love -- and it's SOO quick and easy. All you need: shamrock-shaped erasers(dollar store or Oriental Trading), small black pots (mini-cauldrons from Oriental Trading) or small plastic containers from the dollar store, and a drawstring pouch to put the erasers in (I use a black velveteen jewelry bag). Use a Sharpie marker to put an X on about a third of the erasers.
When each student completes his speech/language task (says his words, repeats sentences, names pictures, etc.), he reaches into the pouch and pulls out a shamrock to see if he has good luck (no mark) or bad luck (marked with X). Good luck shamrocks are put into his pot, but a bad luck shamrock means that ALL of the shamrocks in his pot have to go back into the pouch. Having the pot or other container to put the good luck shamrocks in eliminates the compulsion to count, stack, and otherwise play with the shamrocks!
I just love games that don't take any time away from therapy. I can see playing the same game with plastic coins -- "Get Rich/Go Bankrupt"-- and with Easter Egg erasers -- "Good Egg/Rotten Egg."
