I use generic gameboards (often made myself) and a die (dice). Then I utilize commercial materials (maybe the cards from the WORD Kit, maybe Language Skill Survey, etc..) to play the game. Anything that I can target artic responses, grammar, language content, etc.. The student rolls the die and moves the marker. The twist is that I use colored stickers on the board that keep the game interesting, depending upon where they land. Here's the key I use: yellow = go back to start; green = roll again; red= lose a turn; purple = trade spaces on the gameboard with another player. This way, the students never know who will win (regardless of the task, someone in a group is always more skilled and this disheartens the others).
