I work with middle school students with these goals also ~ For our figurative language unit, I used the books "Parts", "More Parts", and "Even More Parts" by Tedd Arnold. Each of the books goes into figurative language. I copied pages of the books and had students match the sayings to the pictures and then try to tell me what they really meant.
