Have you ever heard of Melodic Intonation Therapy? Its considered a therapy technique for adult stroke victoms...however, it can be adapted for children. Begin with putting different "musical notes" on an index card and singing them with "la" or whatever works for you. Then change the "notes" to words in a sentence and sing them. Gradually, take away the singing and work on heavy intonation.
You could also work on role play. Give your student a "role" that is very emotional and requires a lot of intonation. Good Luck!
