Since the classroom teachers spend a lot of time in November talking about food and the food groups, I try and link this in by having my younger artic kiddos make placemats. I bring in a bunch of magazines and they look for pictures that have their sound in them. It is great artic practice, but also great way to improve their ability to hear their sound in words. I was amazed how some children caught on right away and knew if pictures had their sound and there were other chidren who have no idea if their sound is in a word. Anyway after they find their pictures we glued them on a piece of construction paper and laminated them. Now they have an artic placemat to take home. :)
