Kingston was the site of the annual Quebec-Ontario Team competition on Saturday June 6, 2009. The event is sponsored by the Chess'n Math Association.
In the K-3 Division, Quebec was represented by 3 teams from l’Académie Michel-Provost and Ontario was represented by Seneca Hill, Huron School, and North Prep.
Surprise! The B team l’Académie came first, after having finished 2nd at the Quebec Championship in April. Congratulations to Christine Gao, Louis Charles Campagna, Justin Vittecoq et Charles Olivier Vachon. The "A" team from l’Académie Michèle-Provost (Evan Zhang Bowen Liu Evan Puligadra and Volodymyr Buslayev) beat out North Prep on tie-break (Alon Kosshvili, Jonathan Gitman, David Liu et Yoav Kosashvili). The very successful coach at l’Académie Michèle-Provost is Paul Nataf who has been stimulating young minds for decades!
In the K-6 Division, Internationale School(Hong rui Zhu, Benjamin Weiwu Sun et les frères He, Lin Sheng He and Haley He - not related) dominated the competition. Fernand Séguin School, with Sheng Ming Gu, Michael Chang, Julien Alsène Racicot and Renaud Stephenne, finished 2nd and Henderson School (Amit Kumar, William Li, Max Tran et Debahis Chakraborty) finished 3rd.
In the High School Division, Northern finished first, winning all their matches! Congratulations to Aaron Wu, Tian Lan Benjamin Olden-Cooligan et Daniel Zhang. Collège Notre-Dame (Mathieu Poulin, Siméon Cvetkovic, Émile Trottier et Manuel Péloquin-Lussier) came second on tie-break over Massey Hall (Bowen Jiang, Brendon Lee, Melissa Lee, Eric Sonenvirth).
Thanks to all the participants! Thanks to Frank Dixon who took care of getting us the excellent facilities at Queen's University and helped out during this one day event.
Next year we hope to expand the event.
