Piraveen Vyramuthu, a Sinclair Laird alumnus now in the 7th grade, has had a remarkable winning streak in Vermont events. Last year he won the Vermont 6th grade championship in their state scholastics, as well as the Northern New England Elementary School Championship run by the Continental Chess Association.
Last Saturday, Parker Montgomery, now rated 1970, but several years ago rated over 2200, gave a simul in Middlebury, Vermont. Of his 8 opponents, the only players to score against him were Piraveen, who won his game, and Rakin Bhuiyan, now a 6th grader at Sinclair Laird, who drew.
It must be something in the air.
