Posted by Author Unknown, et al on 1/7/2002, 2:26 pm Well, I said that I would post the reply that I was waiting for from the publisher I had sent the book to, and after seven months they made their decision: here it is: First is my e-mail to Charisma House: -----Original Message----- Dear Sandy, Will you please tell me if the manuscript is still being reviewed? I am looking forward to getting this work published. And I am simply asking about the work's status. Sincerely My Name Then Sandy’s reply: From: Sandy Danielson Sent: Friday, November 30, 2001 7:15 AM To: '-------' Subject: RE: Charisma House Submission Richard, Your submission has been reviewed. Unfortunately, it is not of interest to Charisma House at this time. We have forwarded your submission onto Creation House Press, our co-publishing division, where you will be receiving a packet of information in the mail regarding the division to see if you are interested in pursuing them. Again, thank you for your interest in Strang Communications Company! Sandy Danielson Yesterday when I awoke I felt so healthy I thought, “what is going on.” I was thinking, “this may be the best day of my life,” in some ways it was. Leo J, my partner in crime, and I were contracted to paint a surreal sunset with hues of deep pink and dark blue with stars on two walls, in a several million dollar house in Kirkland WA. And, even though a kid at McDonalds would have probably made as much money as me yesterday, what I came home with was self-satisfaction. I know our work will be seen by many and it is awesome. Someday many will read, (Ride the Ark). And they may see that it is a work that is also well done. A college of mine said yesterday when he heard of the book’s rejection, “Charisma House is gonna regret that decision.” Another one said, “heads are gonna roll.” The news didn’t get me down. God is faithful. He will provide a way. The vision is still fresh and I will not lose faith. ---------- Posted by unknown on 12/10/2001, 9:19 pm , in reply to "Book Status" Dear Unknown, The letter you recieved from the publishers is a standard rejection letter. A major publisher will put a lot of money in promotion of a book. Therefore, books published have to fall within their criteria. Because of the type of industry publishing is, there is a lot of risk is involved in the publishing and promotion of a book. Also the bookstores have up to one year to return unsold copies of books. Your best bet may be a publisher called a vanity press. However expect to pay for it. To self-publish a book may start at around 10,000 dollars. In working in the industry what I tell people is give the book to someone who doesn't really know you and knows their own mind. This way you can get a realistic opinion of it. There is not a lot of money in publishing books. So if you think you may get rich, it may be just a thought. If I had a dollar for every time I heard that line I wouldn't have to work. ---------- Posted by Author Unknown on 12/11/2001, 5:42 am , in reply to "Re: Book Status" Dear Unknown: I thank you for your advice. In fact, I have already given the book out to various people—many who wouldn’t recognize me in a crowd. And so far everyone has expressed positive comments. The work has also gone through seven line edits over the years. It has also been reviewed and listed by the Writer’s Edge, Sally Stuart personally went through the work—she is the author of the Christian Writers Guide. Susan Titus Ozborn also personally reviewed the book she has many editors under her. Both of these fine women gave me much-needed advice. Chris Guin and Judi Wu of Prep Publishing have also helped guide the creation process. Not to mention the editors that did the other five line-edits. So far I have spent about $20.000 on this project. This includes computers, office materials, reading fees, mailing, etc. This does not include me taking six winters off work to pen the work. I have just finished the book. What I wish is that I could replace some of the copies I gave out a mere two months ago—because I have improved the content since. Right now Ann McKinney of Prep Publishing has (Ride the Ark). She is evaluating it with an intent to publish. Their house had already asked to publish the work. And I said yes last Monday on the phone. But both Ann and I though it best that she personally read the work before she spoke of details in the book contract. Prep is not a vanity press. They sometimes ask for a co-pay. I am praying that Ann finds a way to publish this work without financial help on my part. Because I have had to fund this project for six writing seasons and I am in debt up to my elbows. So far I haven’t received a sing dime for being an Author. That’s ok. I didn’t do it for the money.
